EPA Publishes New Resources on Bilingual Pesticide Labeling
What it means: The Pesticide Registration Improvement Act of 2022 (PRIA 5) requires that the safety and health portions of pesticide-product labels be translated into Spanish. Beginning on December 29, 2025, product labels on restricted use pesticide products with the highest toxicity will be required to bear Spanish-language translations for the health and safety sections.
Why it matters: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) new and updated resources include guidance on implementation timelines of these bilingual labeling requirements for various types of pesticide products based on their toxicity, as well as frequently asked questions (FAQs) and answers related to these requirements. The agency intends to update these website resources as various PRIA 5 requirements and deadlines are met, and new information is available. The resources will be available in English and Spanish on the agency’s website.
What ISSA is doing: EPA’s list of FAQs about bilingual labeling were originally put forth by ISSA as part of the PRIA Coalition. We understand that the answers to these FAQs will be released in two rounds. Once they’re released, the PRIA Coalition will schedule a bilingual-labeling webinar for our members, with participation from EPA. Learn more

Get Ready for Election Day!
What it means: Get ready for Election Day on November 5 by visiting ISSA’s Election Center.
Why it matters: With the presidency, 468 congressional seats (33 Senate seats and all 435 House seats), 11 gubernatorial races, and numerous local races all in play this November, now is the time to strengthen the voice of the cleaning and facility-solutions industry. The outcome of these elections will likely impact significant issues facing our industry related to labor, chemical regulations, and the supply chain. This is the time to make sure that you know who is running for public office and where to vote in your district.
What ISSA is doing: Visit the ISSA Election Center to easily:

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) launched the public comment period for its first national workplace heat-stress prevention proposed rule, Bloomberg Law reports. Learn more

Small Businesses Hope FTC Can Help with ‘Fake Reviews’
The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is “cracking down on those who perpetuate fake reviews online.” According to AP, the commission issued a final rule that bans the sale or purchase of such “reviews” and allows the FTC to seek civil penalties against violators. Learn more

EPA Must Publish More Information about Chemicals under Review
A federal judge ruled that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) must disclose more information than the agency currently does about chemicals pending review under the Toxic Substances Control Act, The Hill reports. Learn more

Referendums related to wages and benefits are on the ballot in half-a-dozen states this November, including Massachusetts, Arizona, Alaska, Missouri, California, and Oklahoma, Stateline reports. Learn more

NY Governor Signs Law to Put Free Menstrual Products in SUNY, CUNY Schools
SUNY and CUNY colleges will now provide free menstrual products in all public college and university buildings, according to News Channel 13. Governor Kathy Hochul signed the new law on August 26, 2024. Learn more
