Industry Loses Former Georgia-Pacific CEO
A.D. “Pete” Correll, former CEO of Georgia-Pacific LLC, parent company of GP PRO, has passed away at the age of 80.
Correll was born in Brunswick, Georgia, where he worked in his family’s clothing store. After high school, he attended Georgia Tech University on a golf scholarship. He later transferred to University of Georgia, where he graduated with a degree in business administration, and then received master’s degrees in pulp and paper technology and in chemical engineering from the University of Maine.
Correll joined Georgia-Pacific in 1988 as a senior vice president and was promoted to executive vice president of pulp and paper in 1989. He was elected president and chief operating officer in 1991 and was appointed CEO and chairman of Georgia-Pacific’s board in 1993, a position he held until 2005. He was instrumental in negotiating the US$21 billion sale of Georgia-Pacific to Koch Industries in late 2005.
“Pete was a transformational leader in Georgia-Pacific’s 93-year history and his impact on the company is immeasurable and still with us today,” said Christian Fischer, Georgia-Pacific’s current president and CEO.
